About
The Department of Social Work at Ananda College Campus was established in June 2011. The institute strives to serve society by training aspiring students and connecting them with professionals and organizations working in the field of social welfare and development. The department was inaugurated through the efforts of Rev. Fr. Dr. G. Pushparaj, S.J., Rev. Fr. A. Arockiasamy, and Prof. G. Gopu, Head of the Department of Social Work.

MASTER OF SOCIAL WORK
Programmes Educational Objectives
The Master of Social Work (MSW) Programme provides an integrated academic and professional course that develops the intellectual and practical skills necessary for professional practice as a social worker. The Master of Social Work is a two-year postgraduate programme consisting of four semesters, approved by Alagappa University, Karaikudi. This programme is designed for graduates from non-social work backgrounds who are interested in pursuing a career in social services. The course aims to provide students with fundamental knowledge in social work and offers a broad range of courses covering both theoretical and practical aspects of the profession. The curriculum is structured to develop the skills, attitudes, and values necessary for working effectively with people and organizations. Students graduating from this programme gain an excellent combination of interpersonal and managerial skills, along with opportunities to develop strong professional competencies.

Activities
- A rural camp in social work is an experiential learning program where social work students live and work in a rural community to gain practical skills, cultural sensitivity and firsthand understanding of community dynamics and grassroots social issues. Rural camp is an educational facility located in rural area, often surrounded by nature, providing opportunities for outdoor activities, team building and personal growth. These camps expose students to the realities of rural life, fostering abilities in community mobilization, planning, and analysis, and help them connect with community members to identify needs and develop relevant social work plans.
- The first and second year MSW students secured their rural camp experience at Thai Teresa Charitable Trust (De-Addiction Centre). Mr. Kaviyarasan, the Director of organization shared the valuable and fruitful information about social work with the students. Staying at Thai Teresa Charitable Trust (De-Addiction Centre) at valavanur, the students had 5 days of camping experience in the local areas of villupuram areas such as Arpismpalayam, Kovilur kootu Road, Ilangadu and Valavanur from 08.09.2025 to 12.09.2025.
